Appearance & Habitat

There are a few common skunk species, including the spotted and striped skunk. Skunks are most known for their terrible smell and distinct coloring. Striped skunks show two thick stripes along their back that join together near their tails, and white patches on their heads. Spotted skunks have more varied stripes that are accompanied by few actual spots. Striped skunks weigh between 4-10 pounds and can measure abut 25 inches in length. Spotted skunks are known to be smaller and can weigh no more than 3 pounds and grow between 15 and 20 inches long.
